Is “Islamophobia” Racism?
Is “Islamophobia” Racism?
First: There is no such thing as “Islamophobia”. It seems to be modern these days to add “phobia” to the point of view of people who disapprove of something or someone to put them into a radical corner and avoid a rational discussion about their arguments. A “phobia” is a strong feeling of fear when being close to certain people or things. That is certainly not the case for people who are against Islam.
The reasons why someone might oppose Islam are many. “Hate” or “fear” are only two of them. We should always give those who have another point of view than we have the chance to present their arguments. Just for the record: there are many rational arguments to be against Islam.
“Race”, however, is something completely different and has nothing at all to do with religion. To throw both of those terms together says more about the one who does that than about the attitude criticized.
